Haylage & Hay
Selected grasses are grown on the farm in three year rotational leys. Quality haylage and hay is then made that we sell to a variety of customers. We take great care when making our hay and haylage, making sure we cut at the optimum time and bale when just right ensuring a quality forage we can supply with confidence. We also pride ourselves in supplying some of the top race horse trainers in the area, and also have cheaper lower protein grass mixes for ponies and mature horses..
Baling
Most of our haylage is baled with the 2150 as with this size of bale being almost square section, the bales are easy to roll flat over flat to the desired location upon delivery to a horse yard.
Bale Wrapping
Bale wrapping is carried out using our McHale 995 wrapper. This machine is a stationary unit, and bales are loaded, wrapped, and stacked at the stack location. Although this is a slower operation than wrapping in the field, we believe it's a better way, as there is no risk of damaging the wrapped bales in transit, and no risk of vermin attacks of the wrapped bales in the field. (crows like freshly wrapped bales!) A minimum of six layers of quality wrap is used.
This machine can also wrap our round bales, but we prefer to make our own haylage in squares as more oxygen is removed due to the higher density achieved, making a better quality product.

Stacking
Bales are stacked in large square stacks up to six bales high and remain a nice square shape all year round.
Big Square Baling 120 x 70 Bales
We use Claas 2200 Quadrant balers for the 120 x 70 size bales. We mainly bale straw with these machines, but they are also available for hay, haylage and silage if required.
120 x 90 Bales
Massey Ferguson 2170 HD, LB187 and New Holland BB9080 balers. These balers make the larger 120 x 90 bale and are used for straw baling. These machines are becoming ever more popular as more weight can be achieved when hauling this type of bale. They are a good size for use in straw bedding machines.
80 x 90 Bales
Massey Ferguson 2150 baler. This baler is used primarily for the haylage baling. It has a size of 80 x 90 and the haylage bales are made 120 - 150 in length. We also bale hay, silage, and straw with this machine. It is a very versatile baler.
Round Bales
Ray Darley Agricultural Contractors have Welger variable size high density round balers available for silage, hay, haylage and straw baling.
Bale Handling
Bale handling is carried out using our four JCB loadall telehandlers. We find them useful, reliable machines, and we have a range of different bale handling attachments to complement these machines.
Arcusin Bale chasers
Straw bales are removed from the field to stacks using our two Arcusin big bale chasers. These machines have transformed our bale collection/stacking operation, with up to 1500 bales moved with each machine per day. With these machines we can quickly clear fields ready for our customers to work land for the next years crop, keeping compaction to an absolute minimum due to their wide floatation tyres.
